Art du Jour! Queen Anna

Hans Maler, Anne of Bohemia and Hungary, Queen of Austria. 1520. The Netherlands, Private Collection.

Queen Anna was Marie Antoinette's 7th great grandmother on her father's side.  Can you spot any resemblance? I am loving the owl on her pendant and I would wear that garment this winter.

  1. I love everything about this image. When was it painted? It could be poster art from the late 1800s it has such clear graphic appeal and simplicity.

  2. I believe this was done in 1520 or somewhere very near there. She would have been about 17.

  3. I too love this image -- the design of her gown, the colors, the fur hat. A lovely outfit for a special holiday celebration.

  8. I give it a yay. The hat is a little freaky but I like the pattern of the dress. The necklace is the best.

  10. Do you know, I feel like I can see a resemblance? Or is that just the way of portraits?

  11. Tulip: @MarieGossip I like your Queen Anna post, but what is that black thing on top of her cap? It looks very strange if it's a hat.

It is a hat! It was en vouge to wear the hat over a coverchief, in this case she has a very pretty gold coverchief with a pattern, the hat sits on top. Sometimes these hats were leather but I do not know what Anna's was made of!

I need to look more into this style. If anyone has info on it let us know! ~Lauren
