Thanks for posting. I remember first noticing that in the captions to various Marie-Antoinette portraits I'd see a woman's name as portraitist and thought it was so cool that a woman in that era had such a high-ranking subject. Best,Michael
Oh, a new favourite! :) Thanks for posting!
I love Vigee Le Brun's work. What gumption it must have taken to be a woman artist at that time!
I love this painting, if for nothing else, then for the amusement on her face.
That is a fabulous painting! I love the hat.
Her work is absolutely stunning and this piece is gorgeous.
OMG! How gorgeous is that!?Love it!
That hat is fabulous!
I just love everything she's ever painted! It's gorgeous. Thanks for posting this Lauren:)
It IS a great painting. I love the coloration, the sense that there is blood beneath the flesh. And I agree with Arabella that the model's amused and confident expression is a great part of the charm of the piece. [Though the sheer striped scarf mimicking the stripes around the hat is witty and striking in its own right.]
I loved the hat! :)
