Quotables: of the modern sort

"Dress cute wherever you go, life is too short to blend in."

-Paris Hilton, Oxford Dictionary of Quotations
And how true!

  1. Can't say I've always like Paris Hilton's clothes, but I do agree with the sentiment.

  2. She also said "You can never be too blonde, too tan, or too rich"

My theory is "I always overdress for every occasion so I never feel underdressed"

  3. So lovely. This is one of my favorite Gainsboroughs and it graces my well-worn copy of Evelina. It's hard to put Evelina and Paris Hilton together, but you did it!

  4. Bluck.
When asked what she'd wear to her wedding, Margot Channing in All About Eve said: "Oh something simple. A fur coat over a nightgown." One of my favorite clothing quotes.

  5. Then again, Jane Austen said "beware of enterprises requiring new clothes" (or words to that effect).

I think both quotes are pretty valid!

That's a gorgeous painting you posted today, Lauren. It's the kind of pastoral that makes me want to cross planes of existence and enter it!

  6. I will never ever in my life get over the fact that she's quoted in the Oxford Dictionary...
