18th Century Inspired: Giveaway!

Let's kick off this lovely October week with a giveaway! Danielle at Rococo en Fleurs has a new fall collection of wearable fleurs, blooms for any occasion inspired by 18th century portraits!

One lucky Gossip Guide reader will win this fresh made "Antoinette" bloom!

Description:
The "Antoinette" flower is inspired by Joseph Ducreux's 1769 portrait of Marie Antoinette.  Her inspiration includes, colors, texture of materials and of course, flowers!

This hand singed flower was created using light beige, silver, and deep royal blue fabrics and has been filled with authentic clear quartz 3.5mm faceted rondelle beads. Just enough to catch the light!  It measures approximately 2.5" by 2.75" or 6.5cm by 7.5cm.

The winner can select the type of attachment they would like (bobby pin, hair clip, or pin)

How to enter:
Leave a comment on this post telling us how you would wear flowers fashionably today! I might attach one to a long string of pearls!
That is it!

The giveaway closes Sunday October 17 and the winner will be posted here on Monday October 18.

Good luck and thanks for entering!!

  1. Oh my gosh, I love it! That would go perfectly with my halloween costume, as I play Marie Antoinette herself.
I actually do use flowers, mostly to bring attention on my hairdos, but also adding them to my belts, or skirts.

  2. Lately I have been putting my hair up (it's about 3 feet long) in a simple but pretty style and adding decorative flowers each time. People are very complimentary and notice when you bring a bit of colour and femininity to your appearance! I've also been adding them to the brims of straw boaters and decorating with pearls etc. in time for all the summer picnics I can't wait to have this year, now that our weather's finally warm. If I had such a lovely flower I'd do similar to the above with it and match my garments and makeup accordingly, or perhaps add it to the side of a pearl choker.

  3. They are absolutely beautiful. I love the idea of putting it on a string of pearls. I would most likely use it in my hair.

  4. Having short hair can be a pain in the butt sometimes, but it makes it so easy to wear a flower in your hair! I usually pin it in the "pin-up style," close to my temple on either side of my head.

When I had longer hair, it was the perfect accessory to place above a ponytail or bun!

  5. Oh, I love it! I would probably attach it to a bracelet or a hat, or maybe use it to tie a scarf.

  6. As a lover of Shakespeare I would incorporate flowers much like Ophelia had done: "there with fantastic garlands did she make, with crow-flowers, nettles, daisies, and long-purples..." I would have wreaths of dried or fresh flowers in my hair all the time if I could; perhaps take some country walks in a long country dress as well.

I would use it in many ways. My hair is normally styled simply and falls down my back, but as a classically trained singer, I wear it up, and would incorporate the flower. Also as a brooch on my otherwise conservative suits, om evening gowns at the opera, on hats to the supermarket. As a pin, it could go with anything!

What a lovely giveaway! I have several of RococoFleurs' pretty flowers and wore them this summer on jacket collars, tucked into ruffles on blouses (I felt very Pompadour!), and even pinned to a small purse. I live in New England and a beautiful flower pinned to a winter coat would be wonderful. Katherine Louise

  18. I like putting my hair in low side ponytails, and I think adorning them with flowers (especially in the fall and winter when people need more flowers!) is a wonderful idea! I would pin my fringe back with a flower hair pin too, since it's starting to get long.

If I could, I'd make shoe roses and put flowers on my cell phone, too! :D

  21. It is so pretty!
I have hip length auburn naturally curly hair. I would put all of the curls on top of my head and wear it fashionably on the right side of my head nestled in a bunch of curls.
If I won it, it would be worn regularly and proudly1

  22. Oh, I have been admiring Rococo en Fleurs flowers since the first time you posted them. I love wearing the flowers either on my belt or attached to a necklace, and I do so at least once or twice a week. Love the flowers!

  23. I love flower brooches and they're so versatile - pin them to your collar, purse, or dress up a necklace!

  24. These flowers are sensational!!! Far too many ways to wear them, on a bracelet, as a necklace, as a pin, in my hair...but how about this, for a dramatic look, which I love, it could be worn as a great big fabulous ring! Or even as a centerpiece on a skinny belt, over a dress, blouse or to add silhouette to a loose shirt. Tres chic!

  25. I have started wearing fabric flowers as bracelets-I usually knit or crochet them. This would be fabulous!

  28. I'm absolutely appalled that no one has suggested making a shoe clip.

A pair of them would be simplest put on a pair of blue, perhaps pink; I have a pair of beige heels that might work.

Of course, this is a contest for -one- flower, but there's something to be said about wearing it, slightly garishly, perhaps, at the outer ankle of a shoe.

I think with skinny jeans, perhaps a ruffled chemise and vest, it'd be a smashing outfit. Albeit, a little more 1990 than 1790.

I would attach it to a ribbon to wear around my neck some days, my wrist other days and yes, even on my ankle when the mood strikes. It's beautiful and would be such a lovely "pick me up".

  30. I love accessorizing with flowers! I collect them in various materials (silk, ribbon, plastic, crystal, metal, leather and real ones of course) but I don't have anything that looks like this! I mostly pin flowers to my hair or to whatever I'm wearing near my left shoulder.

  33. I have very short hair, which allows me to use girly-girly stuff like flowers, laces and colours like pink and off white. This flower would go perfectly with the dress I'm wearing for my sisters wedding! It's off white with notes of beige and rose, and the blue would just add a glimpse of colour and "chicness" to my outfit <3

I love wearing flowers in my hair, on my hat, and attached to a choker around my neck. I like that I can change where they go!

Everyone has posted such great ideas for this beautiful flower! I would personally love to attach the flower to a high waisted belt to add some detail and dress up a skirt or dress. I would also use it as a clasp for my fall sweaters and to pin up my pashmina shawl!

  40. I would definitely wear it around my neck on a black velvet choker. If I could manage the right decollete it would look smashing against my 18th-century belle poitrine blanche. Or I'd wear it to class (without the decollete, bien entendu) as a material culture lesson.
