Unidentified Artist (French, active late 18th to early 19th century), Portrait of an Artist in her Studio, ca. 1790, oil on canvas
29 x 27½ in. (76 x 70 cm). Collection Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers. Gift of The Samuel H. Kress Foundation; transfer from the New Jersey State Museum. Photo Jack Abraham.
Check out the details in this beautiful painting! I love her palette!
Such a cool family photo, she even has the dog in there!

  1. Love her gown and earrings. Lovely portrait.

  2. @Vic I totally agree. The earrings are amazing. I actually can't think of another portrait with similar earrings.

  3. "I think I'll put on all my best silks and make an oil painting! Woo!"

I know it's not one of the messier styles of painting but really, you'd think she'd at least have an apron...

  4. Hi Lauren!

Please have a look at this portrait! Similar earrings?

  5. Marguerite Gerard never married. You're saying she did a self-portrait showing her painting her husband? You must have some other painter in mind.

    1. Hi Jan, thanks for the comment. This is an older post and I believe I had pulled the title information from art stor. I just double checked my source, the official title is "Portrait of an Artist in her Studio" so possibly not Marguerite at all!

    2. Another source for title information for this work.
